Today's session saw us working on the main ride back towards the pond mirroring the area
cleared in the ‘Glade’.
Once again working on the level we made good progress whilst Bob replaced the old fence on the
side of the quarry cutting, using posts and rails crafted from timber found in the woods. We are
really lucky to have Bob’s skills in fencing and woodland management, and its worth noting that
all fences of late have been repaired or replaced using materials from the woods, a full cycle of
use and very environmentally friendly.
Toby and Tom once again worked hard by the second of four fires in the woods today ensuring
that we disposed of the brash and cut wood that could not be reused.
Andrew kindly provided sausages and rolls for lunch cooked on the remains of fire No1 with
stunning results (now we need to plan further lunches).
As we now work back towards the pond we will be clearing both sides of the main ride to meet up
with the area we started a few ‘months ago’.
With no ‘Pyro’ Mike, Alan had to step up to the mark with several areas in which controlled burns
were undertaken resulting in a huge step back towards the pond.
It was really good to interact with lots of people in the woods today, including a group of walkers
who use the woods on a regular basis.
Sue and Andy reviewed a chain lopper, which we hope to procure making some of the repetitive
actions in processing the wood much easier, more to follow in future reports.
We would always love new members to the working parties, why not join us? A day in the woods
takes all the usual stresses away and is so rewarding.
